Soulbox Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 24, 2026
Soulbox is operated by Ashton Jessup. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Soulbox mobile app and soulboxapp.com.
The short version: every memory starts private. Only the people you choose to share a memory with can see it. We don't sell your data, and the AI services we use aren't allowed to train their models on your memories.
1. Information We Collect
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and password, or your Google account details if you use Google Sign-In.
Your memories. We store the memories, stories, contacts, photos, videos, audio recordings, tags, and other content you create in the app.
What people add to your memories. When you share a memory, the people you share it with can add their side, such as their own story, voice recordings, and photos. We collect their name and email address, and we store what they add with that memory.
Location data. With your permission, we may read the GPS coordinates in your photos to attach places to your memories. Coordinates are turned into place names on your device.
Device permissions. The app may ask for access to your camera, photo library, microphone, contacts, location, and notifications. We only use them when you start the feature that needs them.
Usage data. We track basic usage, such as how many photos and recordings are uploaded, to run and improve the app. We do not collect IP addresses or advertising identifiers.
Crash and error data. We use Sentry for crash reporting. Personal information collection is turned off; we only collect the technical details needed to find and fix problems.
Support requests. If you contact us through soulboxapp.com/support, we collect your email address, your message, and any screenshot you attach.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide the app's core features, including saving, finding, and sharing your memories
- To power AI features: turning your voice into text, cleaning up your stories, searching your memories, compiling Soulbooks, and creating artwork when you ask for it
- To process your subscription
- To answer your support requests
- To diagnose crashes and keep the app stable
3. Who Can See Your Memories
Every memory starts private, visible only to you. When you share a memory, only the people you choose can see it, and they can add their side to it. If you share a memory by link, anyone who has that link can view it, so only send it to people you trust. You can stop sharing a link at any time.
4. Third-Party Services
We use these services to run Soulbox:
- Firebase (Google): sign-in, data and file storage, and server-side processing
- AssemblyAI: turns your voice recordings into text as you speak
- OpenAI (API): turns uploaded voice recordings (including a side someone adds to your memory) into text, cleans up your stories, powers search and Soulbook compilations, and creates artwork when you ask for it. Artwork is made from your story's text only.
- Sentry: crash reporting, with personal information collection turned off
- Adapty: subscription and payment management, with IP address and advertising ID collection turned off
- Expo: delivers push notifications
- Web3Forms: delivers support requests to our inbox
AI and your memories:
- AssemblyAI and OpenAI process your content only to provide these features. Under our agreements and their terms, they may not use your memories to train their models.
- AI never sees your photos or videos.
5. Data Security
Your data is protected by security rules that limit each memory to you and the people you've shared it with. All data is sent over encrypted connections. We do not sell your personal information or content, and we don't share it with anyone except as described in this policy.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
We keep your data for as long as you have an account. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings → Delete Account, or by emailing us at soulboxapp@gmail.com.
Deleting your account permanently deletes your memories (including everything other people added to them), your photos, videos, and recordings, your contacts and tags, and your sign-in. We keep a short record that the deletion happened (your email address and the date).
What you added to other people's memories stays with those memories, because they belong to the people who shared them with you. You can remove your side yourself before you delete your account, or email us and we'll remove it.
7. Children's Privacy
Soulbox accounts are for people 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Parents may save and share memories about their children in their own accounts, and set memories aside for a child, which the child receives once they have their own account. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll post the updated policy here and change the date at the top.
